Mothers of teen-age daughters and sons on Green-Willow Walk had a peaceful evening last Saturday. . . all except Eve Muter, mother of that beauteous brunette Joy. For that young lady . . . who hais her mother's wonderful zest for hospitality . . . "had the gang
That evening may have been peaceful . . . but when the young visitors returned home, they all demanded the makings for the BLACK AND WHITE CANDY Joy had served them. They said the squares were so good that Joy had to cook a second batch right before their eyes to satisfy her guests!
As a matter of fact, these
cookies cost very little, and they're nutritious as all get out . . .so that the kids make and consume them to their stomachs' content. (And make a batch for adult sweet-toothere, too!) Make sure you use those real "CHIPrrS", though. - The delectable flavor depends on it ... and "CHIPITS" cost no more.
Ingredients:
1 6-oz package CHIPITS
2 cups miniature marshmal-
lows
% cup chopped nut meats Method:
Melt CHIPITS over hot water and stir in other ingredients. Spread in greased 8"x6" pan, chill, and cut into squares.

lenceB and larger concepts to their own members, and to enable leaders to come together for their mutual benefit.
In its first year, fourteen organizations have participated in the Federation as an initial step in providing a forum for a mtich larger number of participating groups in the future so that eventually the whole commimity may benefit through the pooling of the many talents and ^ilities of the participants.
The theme of the Luncheon, "The Wheels Are Turning With Ideas at Work", was dramatized by large wheels at each table with the names of the participating organizations imprinted on the rim and each spoke of the wheel represented one of the services provided by the Federation Committees.
Reports were given by: Mrs. Harry Silverstein, Chairman of Program Aids, who was also Program Chairman of the luncheon; Mrs. Harry Patcher, Chairman of Speaker's Bureau; Mrs. Henry B. Zacks, Chairman of Book Reviewing; Mrs. Jack Leibel, Chairman of Community Tours; Mrs. Murray Fidler, Chairman of Sisterhood Liaison; Mrs. Max Leroy, Chairman of Publicity; and Mrs. Manidel Israelson. Chairman of Calen-
dar Clearance. In the absence of Mrs. Bert Cooper, Chairman of Leadership , Development, Mrs. Bochner read her report.
General organizational needs were discussed. The necessity for a formula for effective calendar co-ordination which would benefit all organizations was emphasized.
Community Tourc of the Jewish Social Agencies supported by both the United Appeal and the United Jewish .Welfare Fund were described and a special announcement was made of two Tour Days scheduled for Tuesday, October 11th and Wednesday, October 12th.
Other reports highlighted the succe<3sful seminars held on Leadership Development. Public Speaking and Book Reviewing and enlarged plans for seminars on publicity and public relations. It was announced that Lotta Dempsey, well-known newspaper writer, had offered to cive a talk on newspaper publicity.
Following the Committee re ports, Mrs. Mark A. Levy, Vice-Chairman of the Federation, introduced the guest 'speaker, Mrs. Sanford R. Arsham, who is chairman of the Women's Organization of the Jewish Community Federations of Cleveland, Ohio, which has one of
the most highly developed social planning programs in the United States.
"We all have special inter ests", said Mrs. Arsham, "but only by joining together can we co-ordinate and enlarge them. Federation is our most effective tool for the development of a well-integreated and smoothly operating community."
The participating organizations of the Federation are: B'nai B'rith Women; Conservative Sisterhoods of Toronto; Hadassah Organization; Holy Blossom Temple Sisterhood; Mizrachi Women; National Council of Jewish Women of Canada (Toronto Section); Ontario Chapter, Women's Branch, Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America; Pioneer Women; Temple Sinai Sisterhood; Toronto Women's ORT;, Women's Auxiliary, Jewish Home for the Aged; Women's Auxiliary, New Mount Sinai Hospital; Women's Division, State of Israel Bonds; Women's Division, United Jewish Appeal.

Memo To My Boss
By RUTHIE
Dear Boss,
It's now two A.M. I'm sitting and wondering how I can meet the deadline at ten this mpming.
I pleaded with you early yesterday to relieve me this week. You could have placed a notice saying I'm on vacation. But, no! My column is so popular, you said, that, by hook or crook, it •'must go in. You want to bet the Prime Minister wouldn't miss it?
I skinned my index finger today while peeling potatoes. Then I almost ripped off my thumb nail grating liver. Boy, will that liver ever taste good! It's mixed with practically most of my life's blood! To top it all, I now have to pound a typewriter. To add insult to injury, my beloved spouse ^raised the roof when he discovered hidden in a far lecess of a drawer about twenty-fivj^pairs of socks which need mending.
Sometimes I wish there were two of me. Though I don't mean weight-wise.
I know one guy who fills up a column nicely. Of course, I don't classify him as a writer. But-if anyone should come across his column, this is what he may read.
"I can't say much about France, but . . . You see, I never went to France. Never did I take a trip to France. Why I never went, I don't know. I just never went to France."
Boss, how many lines does that take? Do you think I can get away with such malarky too? No. that dumb I couldn't be !
Remember the standard joke about the class which was asked to write a composition about the school's football game? Well, one kid just sat and sat and sat. Suddenly—eureka! He quickly scratched a few words on his paper and waited for teacher's comments. What do you think he wrote?
"Rain—no game!"
That, to me, is genius. In just three words he expressed a world of emotion.
Don't get mc wrong, boss. I can knock out oodles. Only,—you try it at two A. M.
Why this hour? For one thing, it's quiet. They say that solitude is conducive to thinking. The only trouble is, solitude comes to me at a time when my mind refuses ^to function. Now don't tell me it never does.,That privilege ^ is my husband's. Anyway, him I can answer back.
Some day I'd like to write what I think of you. However, since the "greenback" is so important, I'll table that indefinitely. Meanwhile, boss, don't be such a slave driver. Let me slow down once in a whUe. Then, when you face your Msker, you can refer to at least one good deed.
Reluctantly,
Ruthie
