KENNEDY AND Hl$ STMl DEPiUITMENT
An official of the State Department in Washington was quoted lost week as having "regretted" the fact that Israel is "wasting funds" for the launching of space rockets. Instead, the anonymous State Department spokesman is reported to hove advised Ben Gurion to spend the money "to help the Arab refugees."
I refuse to believe this was actually said by a United States official. Moreover it is harder to accept the fact that such a statement could be authorized by President Kennedy merely a few months after he hod mode the Zionist cause a part of his election platform. No one con actually accept Kennedy as a Tammany politician, saying one thing on the eve of the elections and doing just the opposite immediately after he won.
■*.'*■;
Despite all these reservations, it seems to me that the lower echelon State Department clique— which mode a mess of American interests frorn the time Roosevelt took over until Truman—is again on the ascenddncy in America's foreign policy council. It would be sod indeed to find these . bankrupt professional experts to whom the West is obliged for all the fiascos beginning with Yalta and ending with Cuba able to influence Kennedy in formulating his new Middle East policy.
First of all, there is q fallacy which no one "in the know" accepts concerning a million Arab refugees. Israel never asked; anv Arabs to leave. When Israel become 0 stote^ 600,000 Arabs 0-bandon^d their, homes because they were told by the foreign Arab leaders and by their own Mufti that they would^'return as conquerors and inherit the Wealth of the Jews," Thesie "refugees" were only too eager to throw-the J^ws into the Medfterronean. They failed. They were rnisled—-by blind leaders, not by Israel.
' Despite the fpct that many of the original escapees died, these TTrob refugees continue to grow in numbers. Any unemployed Arab in Jor-ddn> Iraq,or Lebanon registers as ^'refugee" in order to draw uhennployrhent comfjensotion. No deaths are ever registered. Of course there ore nriony good people among them who, having been misled by the leaders, now regret that they left theTr)lqnd, However Israel cannot afford to accept anyone who just claims to be a Palestihidn. Orj the other hand, there are vast uninhabited lands in Jefraon which is. a pqit of Palestine, in/".. Iraq artd Wtber couhtHes 'where these refugei^i could be resettled FJernhanently^^xThe son^e Arab politicians oppose th^fr ■.resettlement as they op^^^-pose ony solution ,bf the Arab problem,.

ENEMIES ARE ENVIOUS
(By Coble from .The CJN-JCNS Service)
JERUSALEM — Premier David Ben Gurion told his cabinet x)n Sunday that Israel decided to fire the space rocket after it hod received information that the United States hod given Nasser three rockets.
SURPRISE PLANNED
According to Ben Gurion, the information in possession of Israel is that Kennedy gave the rockets to Nasser before it become known that Israel hod a space rocket. Wqshington gave the rockets to Cairo in a gesture of appeasement. Then Nasser would hove surprised the Arabs with "his rockets" on July 23rd, the UAR Notional holiday, Israel's launching of the Shovit II has spoiled the Egyptian's holiday.
NOT INFORMED
Mr. Ben Gurion made this revelation in answer to the Aqhdut Avodoh (leftist) cabinet minister Yitzhqc B^^AIiarcn who was^^^^^
research is formally within the scope of his'ministery and he knew nothing before the firing. Ben Aharon was not informed prior to the launching of the Shovit II.
In the meantime the Israeli public is jubilant about the space rocket launching and, also, about the announcement that. Israel will fire 0 second, more powerful rocket during this month.
"WE DID IT ALONE"
"Hoboker", the doily of the Liberal opposition party states editorially: "While Nasser is being aided by both East and West, Israel has achieved her position in the Space Club herself, by her own scientific progress". The newspaper continues:
'■The fact that Israel's enemies and those who are hostile to" her hove grieeted Shovit II with scepticism, proves their confusion and jeolousy".

ALGIERS, (JCNS) - A Jew-Isli girl, Arlette. Porchd was stabbed in the throat aid seriously injured, while a few moments later a Jewish policeman, Lu-clen Benech, 26^ was stabbed In the back, last Friday In Algiers.
It Is too early to know if other Jews suffered In yesterday's re-hewed troubles. Ih. Algiers Itself, thanks to the, very strongmili-tary wid poUce measures taken, there seems to have been little chance of Europeans or Jews falling victims to the Moslems.
The only shootkig which be-cured was between the French forces and your(g Moslem demonstrators In cities like Con-stantine and the surroundUng district In Eastern Algeria. But it Is still difficult to know what happ^ed to the Europeans arid Jews who live In the Moslem section of ConstanOne.

AT HAIFA TE
HAIFA/ (JGNS)-^ The Israel weather rcxjket •'Shavit" was planned at; the Haifajnstitute of Technology by a team of Israeli scientists led by Mr. Moshe Arens, of the Institute's Aeronautics _ Department, it was revealed here. The planning Started inl960.
One of the . Institute's technicians, who was mcKst interested in promoting the project was the Czech Physicist Pix)fessor Kurt Sitte, now setting a fIveryear prison sentence for espionage. He Wtinted to-make use of the rocket for his further ijfesearch in c^riiic rays. He forecast the production of the rocket in March 1960, by stating that the earthbound telescope would soon be discarded and /that "we hope shortly to be able to teach greater; heights", j ^ "
This '^hows that Sitte wias versed in the secret > of the project,/even after he was suspected of transniitting s&cret information to an unnamed country. V
The project was later btwsted by the Israel Ministry of Defence.
Rabbi Eisendrath announced that a North American meeting will be called in January 1962 and that late in Uie coming year such summit could be held.
The Convention sharply protested the action of the Israeli CMef Rabbinate against the Bend Israel of India.
The resolution protests the Chief Rabbinate ruling against recognition of Hindu Jews as "harmful, divisive and confusing" to ''the non-Jevrish community", by giving impression that hierarchy exists in Judaism".
