tORATH EMETH JEWISH CENTRE ACTIVITIES
Torath Emeth Jewish Centre, 1 Viewmount avenue, has an active schedule for the 1961-62 season. Some of the highlights are:
On Sunday, November 19th, an opening breakfast lecture, at 10:00 a.m. will take place. Rabbi M. Ochs, spiritua;! leader of Torah Emeth Jewish Centre, will speak on: "Halacha and It's Application in Modern Life."
Rabbi D. Hartman of Montreal will speak on Sunday, December 10th. His topic will be: "Living in a Pluralistic Society-Orthodoxy Faces the Challenge of Different Philosophies and Faiths."
On Sunday, January 10th, at 10.00 a.m. there will be a lecture and movie depicting "Civil Defense — Blue Print for Survival."
Mr. Sydney M. Harris, national chairman of the public relations committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress, will discuss "Law and Social Action" on Sunday, February 11th, 1962.
On Sunday evening, March 4th, Rabbi Dr. J. Jakobovlts, former Chief Rabbi of Ire^ land and at present Rabbi of the Fifth Avenue Synagogue in New York City, will discuss, "Some Medical Problems in the Light of Halacha."

B'NAI ISRAEL — BETH DAVID BROTHERHOOD BUSY
On October 22nd, B'nal Israel-Beth David Brotherhood, sponsors of the Tefil-lin Club for the Junior Congregation, held its Sunday morning breakfast-meeting at the Synagogue, 55 Yeo-mans Rd., Downsview,. There was an attendance of more than sixty persons.
Rabbi Pappenheim and Mr. N. Markus, program director of the Northern Branch YM-YWHA. were the guest speakers. Mr. Markus' opic was, "The Role of Youth in Our Jewish Community." Administrators of the meeting were Mr. Max Sandler, Mr. Sydney Forcht and Mr. Max Gertzbein.
On October 24th, the Brotherhood held its initial general meeting at the Synagogue. Chairman Mel Katz-man assisted his committee in the installation of 39 new members. Those installed were: M. held their first "Youth Weekend" fashioned after the Beth Tzedec Great Weekends.
Last Friday evening was devoted to a Regional USY Oneg Shabbat hosted by Beth Am Synagogue and USY.
Saturday, after Havdalah, a social evening was held. Conveners were Miss Maxa Elman and Mr. Jon Wintrob.
Sunday morning, after Tefillin Club, at the Youth Breakfast, Mr. Aaron Nuss-baum, USY Regional Coordinator, addressed the gathering.

Last weekend, approximately 40 members of Beth Tzedec USY journeyed to Circle-M Ranch in Klein-berg. They indulged in horseback-riding all day. In the evening they returned to Beth Tzedec for meetings

RABBINICAL LEADERS FEATURED IN BOOK MONTH SYMPOSIUM
Senior rabbinical exponents in Toronto of all three major branches of Judaism will share one platform here Monday night, November 20, at a public symposium marking this year's Jewish Book Month.
Participating in a "Symposium on Literary Anniversaries", co-sponsored by Canadian Jewish Congress Central Region and the Jewish Public Library, will be Rabbi Dr. W. Gunther Plaut of Holy Blossom Ternple, Rabbi Dr. Stuart E. Rosenberg of Beth Tzedec Synagogue, and Rabbi Dr. Walter W. Wurzburger of Shaarei Sho-mayim Synagogue.
A capacity audience is expected for the event, to be held in the Associated Hebrew Schools auditorium at 3630 Bathurst Street at 8 p.m.
Each of the distinguished rabbinical leaders has chosen the anniversary qf a noted Jewish literary personality for his presentation at the symposium:
Rabbi Plaut will speak on Abraham Geiger, famed Ger-
man Jewish rabbi and scholar who wrote extensively in the field of Bible study and Jewish history and theology and is considered a pioneer of the Reform movement, marking the 150th anniversary of his birth.
Rabbi Rosenberg will speak on Mordecai M. Kaplan, marking the 80th birthday of the renowned scholar-philosopher and writer whose Reconstructionist movement has had great impact on Jewish thought in this century.
Rabbi Wurzburger will speak on Shneor Zalman Ben Baruch of Ladi, founder of the Habad Movement in Hasidism, marking the 150th anniversary of his death.
Also featured in the Book Month observance this year will be an exhibit of recently-acquired books in English, Hebrew and Yiddish at the Jewish Public Library, 458 Markham Street. This year the celebration of the Book Month opens on November 3 and contuiues to December 3.

NORTH BAY, Ont. (CJN) — Mr. and Mrs. Nate Rivelis held a meeting in their home at North Bay recently when leaders of the community met Mrs. Minna Levitas, Director of Community Services for Canadian Jewish Congress, Central Region.
Community activities were discussed and a special Cultural Programming Committee was set up and Mr. Bill Freedman and Mrs. Geely Brown were appointed Co-
Chairmen.
At the present 'time the community is conducting its 1961 U.J;A. campaign, the chairman of which is Mr. Ben Herman, President of Sons of Jacob Congregation. Mr. and Mrs. Herman have now taken up permanent residence in North Bay. Mr. Rivelis is,a past president of the North Bay Lions Club.
Participating in discussions was Mr. Herbie Brown,
chairman of the North Bay United Appeal, and Mr. Manny Gurevitch, president of B'nai B'rith.
Mrs. Levitas also met with a group of members of .the Sons of Jacob Sistefltood at the home of Mrs. H. Brown. Among those present were Mesdames: Heleil Adams, Eunice Freedman, Adele, Freeman, Herta Getz-. ler, Jean Gurevitch, Sunny Herman, Shirley Hochmari, Sally Jus'tein, Marcia Pryce.
