opposing the French and the Moslems in Algeria, the Jew-ich comrnunity throughout the country is getting more and more mixed up in the struggle.
A great number of synagogues situated in the ancient quarter of Algiers had to be closed down recently as it was too dangerous and too risky for Jewish worshippers to walk through the narrow streets leading to theise synagogues.
Arab terrosists of the F. L. N. (National Liberation Front) have increased their attacks on Jews. They accused them of being in close
co-operation with the Europeans. In Oran Jews are frequently attacked by Moslems. Many of them were killed.
Last Sunday the hazan of the small synagogue in the lower Casbah of Algiers, Mr. Perez was killed by a Moslem terrorist while on his way to the synagogue. Mr. Perez, a father of nine children, was never active in anv nolitical movement. It just happened that he was passing by in the street at < time when the terrorist was looking for an eventual v'ctim. The case is typical of many others.
