JAN BAKT
BIIOAHWAY'S GIFT TO ISRAEL
Toroniomans have b e e n\ NowAliat eighty-percent: o} treated lately to what tiuiy] the first issue of the State
be considered a Jewish Show of Shows, lis producer, its star, its cast, its M.C. — are all bne man. Master of All Arts: Jan Bart.
Fur the past eleven years, since the State of Israel lawiched its bonds drive, Polish-born Jan Ban has been tonrina North America for the purpose^/ inspirnig his fellow-Jews to invest in what he believes to be the soundest enterprise: t h e Jewish State. Ja^i Bart is
ol Israel. Bonds already has been redeemed, it is relatively easy to sell Israeli bonds. However, eleven years ago, when the young and highly talented shtger and entertainer, Jan Burt, who had been trained as a cantor, made his life's decision to leave a pro}nising career on Broadway in order to devote himself to the sale of bonds — such ajtep demanded the purest of idealism. ' in a Toronto synagogue, I I realized how dedicated this ' man must be to the cause of l.srael in order to have ah I andoned the stage so that he I cindd devote himself entirely j to making his fellow-Jews i aware of what Israel mean.^ j to our generation.
Indeed very few actors and.stage performers posses-i the talent to become a suc-cessfid one-man-show. Jan Bart usually begins as his ■own M.C. Both Engit<h and 'Yiddish come naturally to ■ him. He keeps Ins audience .spellbound, from the jit^t I minute of his appearance : iniiil the end of the show. ; Even when he sells bonds — ' after assuming the roles of , raconteur, imijatvr. >i>;ger a>td Jew-comedian in the ' best sense of the word — the captivated listeners remain and buy.
Not one person have I seen to leave the room before the complete show was over.

JAN BART
Somehow Jewish people warm up to him. Is it his deep lyric tenor which reminds them of the best ha-zanim? Is it his excellent imitation of characters which has been equaled only by Menashe Sktdnick? Is it his personality in whom one senses the warmth of a fellow-Jew who believes in what he says — even onstage?
Thus, at the age of forty-three, Jan Bart is going strong as the most remarkable salesman of- the cause of Israel.
The only one who has the prerogative to be critical of this show is Mrs. Jan Bart, the former Lillian Robbins, an exceptionally talen t e d contralto in Iter own right.
New York-born Lillian and Jan have been married happily for twenty-one years. Their daughter Judith, nineteen, recently married. The Barts also have a son, Gary,
sixteen, who hopes- ro~&e^'"sion Club.
