Formed in the spring of 1902 by a few Jewish immigrants from Roumania, the congregation has now a membership of more than 700 families.
The First Roumanian Congregation Adath Israel met initially in a succession of small rooms and stores. From 1924 to 1957, congregants worshipped at the Bathiurst and College synagogue until the present site was acquired.
