RABBI M. KIRSHBtUM
Special guest at the 5th Annual Meeting of the Central Fund for the Traditional Institutions of Toronto will be Rabbi Mordecai Kirsh-blum. Co-Chairmen Meyer W. Gasner and Mark A. Lexy issued an invitation to the Jewish community to attend the annual meeting, which is scheduled for 8:15, Thursday, December 13, at the Associated Hebrew Schools, 3630 Bathurst Street.
A comprehensive report, by Co-Chairman Meyer W. Gasner, on the rapid progi-ess of the Central Fund since its inception five years ago will be a highlight of the meeting.
Rabbi Mordecai Kirsh-blum, member of the Executive of the Jewish Agency and Head of its Torah-Edu-cation and Culture Department and President of the M i z r a c h i Organization of America, is a distinguished religious leader and executive who has made a national reputation as a speaker in Yiddish, English and Hebrew as well as a practical worker lor the upbuilding of Israel. Elected president of the Miz-rachi Organization of America, the largest religious-Zionist group in the world, at the age of 42 at the 32nd annual convention in November, 1952 he was the youngest man in the history of the-American Mizrachi to hold the presidency, a position held previously by such world-renowned personalities as Rabbi Meir Bar-Ilan (Berlin), Rabbi Jacob Levin-son, Gedaliah Bublick, Rabbi Wolf Gold, Leon Gellman and others. A graduate of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and the Yeshiva College of New York, Rabbi Kirshblum is now studying for a Doctoral degree of Hebrew Letters. He has been spiritual leader of the Jewish Community House of Bensoiihurst in Brooklyn, the second largest Jewish center in New York City; since 1944.
As Senior Vice-Chairman of the American Zionist Council, Rabbi Kirshblum is one of. the policy-makers of the American Zionist movement as r e p r e s e n t e d by that august body.
Rabbi Kirshbluna also serves as a member of the Board of Directors, and of the Administrative Committee of the Jewish National Fund of which he was cor treasurer from 1950 to 195^. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of Bonds for Israel and on March 2, 1953 received ah award from the Bonds for Israel campaign for services to that cause. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the United Israel Appeal and iiL addition to his Mizrachi responsibilities, he has travelled to all parts of the world (iii-cluK^Bg ^Australia and; New Zealand as well as Latin America) on behalf of the Zioriist movement.

• The Beth Torah Congregation (Jack Hauer. president*, in conjunction with the Sisterhood .Ruth Lukofsky, president) and n.e Brotherhood (Dr. Solomon C; Bond, president), held its first main cultural event of the season on Tuesday, December 4th, at 47 Glenbrook Avenue.
Rabbi Benjamin Haner, spirlt-jal leader of Beth Torah, spoke on "Trends in Judaism Today". Participating in the discussion following the Rabbi's talk were: Jack Siiberman, cultural chairman of the congregation; Dr. Jacob Seeman. cultural chairman of Brotherhood; Mark Golden-berg, Louis Lukofsky, Morris Freedman, Max Switzman, Irving Mueller, Sam Gosman.

• More than thirty post-barmltz-vah boys attend Torah reading at Beth Emeth Synagogue every Ihursday morning at 7:30 p.m., oeforc their morning studies. Most of them are between the ages of 13-16. They are encouraged to perform the daily ritual of 'tefillin' (phylacteries) under the capable guidance of Rabbi Joseph Kelman,^ spiritual leader of Beth Emeth.

Atlanta, Georgia, will be the second of this year's guests in the "Men and Issues" series. He will speak the following week-end, Dec. 14th-16th.

• Friday, December 7th, Holy Blossom Tooth Council will be guest of Beth Tzedec Tenth at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday. December \ith. Holy Blossom Temple will nost a "Human Rights Program", sponsored by the Toronto Jewish Tonth Conntil. This consists of 22 different Jewish yotith groups throughout Toronto, and carries out a variety of programs and activities of common interest to all these groups. The. program be-Lins at 8:00 p.m., and will consist of a talk by Mr. Alan Borovoy, executive secretary of the Ontario Labor Committee for Human Rights. Gerry Gray, member of The Travellers' Folk Singing Group, will entertain. A report on "Books for Miles College" project will also take place.

The conference will deal with the major Issues affecting the spiritual welfare of Canadian Jewry.

• RecenUy the Beth Jacob High School of Toronto held an open house in its new quarters at 27 Viewmoimt Avenue. This marked the official opening of the building purchased by Mr. S. Wortsman, an enthusiastic worker for the school. Besides Mr. Wortsman, guest si>eakers were Rabbi M. Bobrowsl^ and Rabbi A. I. Gluckowsky. Cheryl BUti, a Beth Jacob student, represen^ ed the students. Mrs. P. Feinstat and Mrs. D. Roodman spoke for the Women's League.

CANADIAN TECHNION LECTURE
On Sunday, December 9th, at 10:30 am., the Canadian Technion Society, in cooperation with the Toronto section of the Institute of Radio Engineers and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, will present Dr. John R. Pierce, one of America's foremost scientists, at Holy Blossom Temple.
Dr. Pierce, a pioneer and leader- in the development of SatelUte Communications, is director of research for Bell Telephone Laboratories of America .
