TORONTO YOVTH FOR RrHIAX RIGHTS
"Human Rights, Racial Discrimination — Challenge to Jewish Youth" will be the theme of an exciting Human Rights Program to take place Svmday evening, December 9th. Under the sponsorship of the Toronto Jewish Youth Council, comprising 24 youth groups and organizations throughout Toronto, over 300 teenagers will come together at Holy Blossom Temple. Mr. Alan Borovoy, Executive Secretary of the Ontario Labour Committee for Human Rights, will keynote the evening. Discussion
groups will follow his talk
led by various staff members of the participating youth groups. Gerry Gray, well known folk singer will conclude the evening with songs from many lands.
The program, prompted by a Book Drive for tiny unaccredited Miles College, in Birmingham, Alabama, will also include a report on books „c o 11 ec t e d . Negro students at Miles College were denied a routine permit for a house-to-house collection for their rundown library. A book blitz, a dance
with the price of admission a book, canvassing of members and contact with book companies were some of the effective methods employed by various Toronto Jewish Youth groups, with the tremendous result of over 4C0 books being collected. Miss Gail Geller, Chairman of Toronto Jewish Youth Council, along with Mr. Herb Sohn, Program Director of the Y.M.-Y.W.H.A. and Mr. Gordon Wolfe, Director of Youth Activities at Holy Blossom Temple, are providing the leadership for the project.

Forever Kensington
That last haven 61 the rugged Individualist, the refuge of the rnnall entrepreneur — the Ken-Blngton-Baldwin area — was Bomethlng of an election Issue In the recent municipal elections. Alderman Horace Brown and David Rotenberg both claimed credit (jointly for they did not compete with each other in this respect) for having arranged for parking space nearby to alleviate the blocked passages that cause despair among motorists who are unwise enough to sally into these perilous straits. One of Horace
Brown's statements was to the effect that his plan was "to clean up Kensington market". However this wasn't what he meant literally — it was to clear up the traffic menace.
Some candidates who talked about a new sort of antiseptic shopping plaza-cum-supermarket to replace the present crowc'id stands and sidewalk displays got short shrift from a pre-election audience at St. Christopher House. For not only vendors but shoppers too apparentlywant Kensington to remain just as it is with its unsightlinesses and its charms, Its anachronisms and its diist, Its haWkers-and hagglers. Reform Judaism Dons the Yarmnlka
Those of us who are accustomed to thinking of Rc'-rm Judaism in certain stylized patterns — almost stereotypes — will be surprised at a recent news photo that appeared in the Windsor, Ontario Star. It was taken at the dedication of the new Reform temple In that city and shows three Ontario Reform rabbis — Gunther Plaut of Toronto, Bernard Baskin of Hamilton and Sherwin Wine of Windsor — all attired in the traditional yarmul-ka!
Temple Beth-El of Windsor apparently adheres to the praa tice of keeping the head covered in worship — at least for the person officiating or leading the service. Reform Judaism does not have a fixed form of ritual In these matters and there are variations in different congiregations. In a tew the second day of Rosh Hashanah is observed and In some, heads are kept covered during prayers. .
A Swim At Shal
A number of eyebrbws were lifted at reading the nevvs in the church page of one of the dallies about a synagogue being planned a swiinming pool. What was not in North York which will include made clear was whether.the congregants were expected to have their , daily dip before shach-ris or was It meant to replace the mishhayos study between-mih'cba and maariv?

Believe me.
I'm not saying this because he's my only son.
But who ever thought a boy from Jacksonville, Florida would grow up to be the Chief Pilot for a whole airline?
It's funny, but Bill wash*t even interested in flying when he was young. Which was all right with me.. Frankly, it made me a little nervous even when he played football. 1
Then something got into him. just when we all tho.ught he was.goinginto some nice businessi he enlisted in the Air Corps. ,
Pretty soon, he was a group commander with i.
the 8th:^ Force in Europe. By the time he came home, it was Gapf am Katr.
With a Distinguished JFlying Cross, if you please.
Afterwards^ it was flyingj flying, fl^
I don!t know if you could call him a pioni^er or anything/but he was right there when EL AL was^only a tiny little airline.
Arid how? Now you can call him,Chief Pilot.
And does he keep an eye on that airline )
Sometimes I think he worries aboutit too much.
iZlo you know how many miles he's flown? Over 2 milliohl Do you know how long he's spent in the air? Over 12 thousand hoursi
But if that's what it takes to make the airline so good, that's what he does.
The other pilots even tell a joke on him. They say he only comes down to collect his pay;
But / know better. I have two beautiful graiid*; children who live in Israel with Bill andi my daughter-in-law.
They come to see me now and then, but I wi I couid spoil them more often. It's a good tiling they haVe Bill for a father. He spoils everybody. Except himself. .
So if you take a trip on EL AL Israel Airlines and see him, tell hfm I said to dress warm.,;
