Barbara's voice is flexible, she carries a wide range.
Asked whether she is spoiled, her mother quickly answered,
"Oh, no! We are average people who work very hard to make a living. We haven't the time, nor can we afford to spoil her."
"Moreover," proud Mrs. Gryfe added, "Barbara helps out in our store (a groceteria) too during spare time."
Asked when jit was discovered that Barbara had a special flair for singing, Mrs. Gr\'fe continued, "To tell the truth, she always sang. Her sunny disposition and continuous humming delighted our customers. It wasn't, however, until about a year ago that her interest became apparent."
"To the question, "Is she nervous when she performs?", Mrs. Gryfe replied, "Goodness, no. She loves her public."
Presently Barbara is acquiring good, basic training in music. She studies the piano-accordion with Bill Berle.
The youngest in the family, and only girl among three boys, Barbara is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Grj'fe who are arhong the founders of the Roumanian Shul on Augusta Avenue. On her maternal side, she is the granddaughter of the late B a r u c h Price, Hebrew scholar and teacher, and Mrs. Toby Price. She is related to Rabbi A. A. Price, noted Toronto scholar.
With a background such as this, it is understandable that Barbara is a fifth-grade honor student at the Associated Hebrew Day Schools.
Recently she vvon first prize when she sang on Uncle Jerrj-'s Sunday inorn-ing radio program.
:Th& Grj'fes are sensible about this. "Any money Bar^ bara receives/' Mrs. Gr>'fe states, "goes into bonds. One day she will need it to further her education."
Bai-bara's forte is nostalgic, Jewish and Hebrevy music which noticeably comes from the heart. A potential Sophie Tucker?
