Ilnaniliorizeil Statement
Dear Editor, '
I protest the use of my name without any authorization whatsoever in a statement allegedly issued by the Mizrachi-Hapoel Hainizrachi in The Cainadian Jewish News of February 2ind-
Furthermore, I am not "aiairtnan" of the "Rabbinical Board" (there is, in fact, no such position in the organization) and I have not "ordered the cancellation of a lecture", as alleged. Incidentally, Mr. I. Weinberg, president of Mizrachi, has informed me that he did not authorize the statement, which was attribut* ed to both of us.
February 22, 1963 Rabbi Walter S. Wurzburger
For tbe Record
Dear Editor: ;
In The Canadian Jewish News of February 22nd, an advertisement appeared allegedly signed by me as president of Mizrachi-Hapoel Hamizrachi. This "statement" has nothmg to do with lis whatsoever and has not been placed by us but, probably, by a person whose purpose was to cause us unpleasantness.
Thus I ask you to please correct this error and also state that ^e are, not connected in any way with this ad.
Israel Wehiberg,
President Mizfachi-Hapoel Hamizrachi, Toronto
The above Is an excerpt from Mr. Weinberg's original letter, translated from the Yiddish.
PIOUS INTRIGUES

, an; :'edit€>rial':
SMALL TOWN "RELIGIOUS'' FOLITiCIANS
Characters from Balzac's ''Illusions Perdues," Sholem Aleichem's "Yehu-petz" and Mendele's "Mare" have come to life in a paid advertisement which appeared last week in The Canadian Jewish News — of all places.
Exploiting the gullibility :of an em-ployee in the advertising department of this newspaper, some "pious" intriguers who wanted to "get even" with a rabbi succeeded in placing an adver-tisement lor the purpose of offeiiding Rabbi M. Celniker, a highly respected member of this city's Conservative rabbinate. These "ultrarorthodox" subterranean heroes even dared sign Rabbi Walter S. Wurzburgef's name' to this
notice. Of course, Rahbi Wurzbiu-ger had nothing to do with it. We doubt also whether anyone of the leadership of the Religious Zionists was behind it, as Rabbi Celniker, of all things, Is a graduate oi the Mizrachi Seminary in Warsaw. (In fact the nearest kin to the Toronto hit-and-run zealots in pre-war Poland were those who waged this kind of tmderhand warfare against Mizrar chi's seminary.)
The old Talmudic Injunction is still of actuality: "Do not fear the Sad-dUcees nor the Pharisees, but the hy-. pocrites who act as Zimri and expect the reward of Pinchas."
