A joint delegation repre-'senting the United Zionist Council of Canada and Canadian Jewish Congress met with Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson for the' first inr terview by the Jewish Community's leaders with the new government head since he assumed office. With the Prime Minister was the Secretary of State for External Affairs, the Hon. Paul Martin.
The delegation met the Prime Minister to discuss the present difficulties in the Middle East. The interview was sought in view of the fact that the Prime Minister will head Canada's delegation to the United Nations at the opening session of the 18th General Assembly later thismonth. -
Led by Joseph N. Frank and Michael Garber, QC, presidents respectively of the United Zionist Coimcil and of Congress, the delegation submitted oral and written representations .. on matters of great concern to the Jews of Cainada, as Canadian citizens, where particular Middle Eastern questions are involved, touching on the security and the well-being of the people of Israel and the Middle Easterii neighborhood as a whole . . ."
In its submission, the delegation stressed the Syrian-Israel border tension; the imbalance of arms, a development Which ". . . thr«it-ens even more than individual incidents the long-term stability of the area." Dis-
cussions also centered on the tmresolved Arab refugee problem and its implications for the future.

Montreal, (CJN). — Rabbi Dr. Samuel Cass, Director of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation, advised the Canadian Jewish Congress that recognition of Rosh Hashanah was accorded this year in the Calendar of McGill University "Student's Information 1963-64". He reports statement in connection
with the announcement of registration in upper years of Science and Arts scheduled for September 19 and September 20 to the effect that "students prevented from registering on this day by religious observances may register on September 18th".

were made in past years in similar conflicts of dates, this marks the first time that the ahnoimcement accomodating Jewish students in the observance of the High Holy Days is incliided in the University Calendar.
In the School for. Teachers at MacDonald College in Montreal, which has scheduled school and College activity tests for the opening day of lectures coinciding with the first day of Rosh Hashanah (September I9th), arrangements will be made to administer the tests to Jewish students at another suitable time.
Recognition has always been given in the School of Teachers for Jewish Students to absent themselves from classes on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
An announcement to this effect will be made when all students are convened at t^ opening Assembly of the School on September 18th.
RECIPE OF THE WEEK
MELTING TEA CAKE
Vt cup whole almonds, blanched | 1 cup (two sticks) butter 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • teaspoon grated lemon rind 4 whole egges 4 egg yolks
1 cup sugar IJ cups sifted flour
2 tablespoons sifted cornstarch | i teaspoon mace
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. { Grease and lightly flour a nine Inch kugelhopf pan or a deep I nine-Inch tabe pan. Arrange tlie almonds around the bottom ff pan. Melt the butter over low heat and cool to lukewam, but| do not clarify it Add the vanilla extract and lemon rind.! Combine the eggs, eggs yolk and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Set bowl over a saucepan of hot water, and place saucepan over low heat about 10 minutes, or until eggs are slightly warmer than lukewarm. Do not let water boil. While eggs are being heat^ ed, sUr them occasionally to prevent them from cooking on bottom of bowl. When eggs arej warm, beat them until they j are cool, thick and tripled in bulk. Sprinkle with the flour, cornstarch and mace. Fold theM in gently, gradually adding the! melted butter mixture at Uie| same time Continue to fold i tmtil there is no trace of butter. Do not overmix. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 35 to 45 minutes, or until cake is golden brown and shrinks from the sides of the pan. Yield: one j cake.
