Italian ** Landsmanshaft
9»
Thanks to the efforts of a most enterprising young man, Rocco Lofranco, a new Lands-manshaft has been formed in Toronto's Italian community.
A Landsmanshaft is a club whose members originate from the same neighborhood and who wish to continue their ties with the Old Country. Since the Italian people, like those of the Jewish community, are warm, family loving and closely knit, it is but natural for such organizations to exist.
This latest Landsmanshaft, Pisticci Club (in the Province of Lucania, near Ban), recently was founded by idealistic Rocky — as his friends call him —, still in his twenties.
Last Saturday night. May 1st, the Pisticci Club held its inaugural dance at Toronto's Italian Hall. Eight hundred kindred folk, young and not so young, attended — a good percentage

for a first time without any fanfare, considering that the population of Italian New Canadians from the town in southern Italy numbers 4,(XX); more than 9.000 are born here.
Prominent guests at the affair ineluded: Mr. Bertucci of the Italian Consulate; Alderman Joe Piccinini; Joe Peters; Norman Biback,
The Pisticci Club will meet not only for social purposes. Its ultimate aim is to help newcomers to Canada in making a fresh start; it will lend a hand in the education of the young. And not to be forgotten are those in Pisticci who may require some financial assistance.
Eventually Pisticci Club hopes to create a village right here in Toronto which will serve its object and be a model .to other communities.
The executive-in-formation includes Rocco Lofranco, Luigi CJesualdi, Gaetano Plati, Luigi Barbetta, Mario Di Taranto. Mi-chele Delia Fortuna, Michele Caruso, Frank Coriglione, Pietro Viggiani, Mario Dragonetti.
Norman Biback, well known attorney and leader in Toronto's Jewish community, is legal advisor to the Pisticci Club.
TITOSUPmrSIIASSER
LONDON (JCNS). — In a joint communiqiu^ issued at the end of their taiks in Cairo last week. President Tito of Yugoslavia joined President Nasser in calling for the restoration "of their land and rights 'to the Arabs of Palestine.
Earlier, at a banquet in his honour. President Tito had said that he agreed with his "dear friend," Nasser, "that the policy of arming Israel, which is being carried out with increasing rapidity, is regarded as a source of ihany dangers in this part of the world."
He went on: "I believe that those who try to halt the progress of the Arab peoples, and to disrupt their unity, realise to a certain extent the negative.results of thb poll? cy; we feel confideint ttot the Arab peoples will triumph in their struggle for their rights, regardless of current difficulties, they will enjoy the support and sympathy of all peace-loving peoples and of all forces of.progress in the world." '
President Tito was recently host in Belgrade to President Bourguiba.
