United States' Columbia Broadcasting System will act as advisor in establishing a general television service for Israel. Shortly after the first of October, the chief engineer of CBS will arrive in Jerusalem.
In principle, television will be established in Israel by 1967 though cutbacks in development funds during the recent economic crisis have delayed .Jhe start until the spring of 1968,
CBS will receive 8100,000 for the first six months of advisory work and $50,000 for each succeeding six-month period. The contract is for two-and-a-half years and is renewable.
The service would consist initially of two-and-a-half hours daily - two hours in Hebrew and a half-hour in Arabic. Offered will be news, current events, public affairs and service programs.
Former Premier David Ben Gurion has been an outspoken critic of TV.
There are up-to-date more than 30,000 television sets operating in Israel despite high taxes which make the, l^S^pI a set and instal-lati^iile^e to about $1,000. IsraelM^atch Arab televi-

Agency Departments To Be Reduced
Jerusalem, (JCNS) - The Jewish Agency Executive, meeting here, decided to reduce to eight the present number of 16 portfolios. Only Zvi Lurie of the leftist Ma-pam party opposed the move.
The question of a separate department for religious education was left for further discussion. If agreed, it will form a ninth department
The decision to reduce the number of portfolios is part of the efforts to streamline the Agency and cut costs
