CONGRESS TOUGH ON EGYPT
WashingtonCJCNS) - United States policy In the Middle East was not a significant issue in last week's Congressional elections, bui the out-
come of the vote may affect future policy in the area, notably American aid to Egypt.
The substantial Republican
gain in the House suggests that if the State Department plans to restore aid, it wil encounter strong opposition in the new Congress.
There has been no public discussion of any new aid program Egypt, but the Egyptians have been seelting to purchase food from the Uni-

ted States on easy terms. However, recent declarations by Egypt's ambassador to the U.N. during the Security Council debate over Syrian terrorism, have not endeared Egypt to the United States.
Another issue in American policy in the Middle East -the reaction to the Arab boycott - may also be affected )y the election results.
The Administration has recently amended the regulations, in response to criticism fronr Congressional proponents, making it easier for American businessmen to rebuff Arab threats.
The Administration does not believe that stiffening the law will alter the Arab attitude. Since there is probably a difference of opinion on this, however, the issue may be revived when Congress reconvenes, and proponents may ask for a review of boycott developments by the Senate and House banking and currency committees.
Israel's friends in Congress will miss a staunch champion with the defeat of Senator Paul H. Douglas, the 74-year-old Democrat from Illinois, Douglas was in the front ranks of American Congressmen on every Middle East issue.
Another veteran friend of Israel, Mr. Joseph W. Martin, a former Speaker of the House, who with Douglas was one of the sponsors of the 1951 aid legislation, was defeated in the Republican primary. Coincidentally, a Republican Congressman who led the fight to reduce American economic aid to Israel in 1951, Mr. Harold D. Cooley, of North Carolina, chairman of the powerful committee on agriculture, was defeated in this year's voting.
Congressman Herman Toll, of Pennsylvania, who retired because of illness, was succeeded by Mr. Joshua Eilberg, a Democrat.

BUSINESSMEN:
BUSINESS INTRODUCTIONS ABROAD AT NO ADDITIONAL EXPENSE
For the convenience of businessmen traveling abroad, SAS provides a most important contact service by arranging introductions to business sources as vjeW as professional counterparts. If, for example, you v^^ant to meet v^^ith an architect or interior decorator to discuss a proposed office layout for your distributor's office in Stockholm, SAS would be helpful in this way: You could contact any of our district offices with your request, indicating the date and time you wish to have your meeting in Stockholm. The information would be relayed to SAS Business Services Division in New York, where, depending upon the time element, a wire or letter would be sent to SAS Stockholm office with full information and a request to set up a meeting with an appropriate contact. Upon confirmation, SAS would contact the district office from which the original request came so that you would be notified in time to keep the pre-arranged appointment, it's as simple as that. SAS makes every effort to provide these services and many others for SAS transatlantic passengers.
