Single women find Israel an attraction
London, (JCNS). - The boom in British emigrants to Israel Is continumg. In the first (our months of this yearj the total showed an increase of more than 80 per cent compared with the same period in 1967.
Up to the end of May, 1968, there were 353Britlsh emigrants (excluding those on Shnat Sherut and tourists who decided to stay) as against 161 in the same period last year. In April alone, the number of emigrants, 83, was more than double last year's April figure.
The total number of British emigrants to Israel in 1966 was 520.. Despite a considerable slow-down in the first part of last year, the total for 1967 reached 720, as a result of the upsurge in feelings towards Israel during and after the Six-Day War.
SPECTACULAR RISE
Single girls are still showing the greatest interest in settling in Israel. They comprised more than 26 per cent of the emigrants this year and their number was more than double that of single men. Thirty-eight families, comprising 127 persons, were also among the emigrants.
The age-group most interested in emigration was 18-29. Only 20 people over 50 emigrated in the first four months of this year; youths under the age of 18 numbered 58^

of salvation from within.
Although this thinking is understandable as a response to a white power structure that never completely committed itself to true equality for the Negro, and a die-hard mentality that sought to shut all windows and doors against the winds of change, it nonetheless carries the seeds of its own doom.
Of course, you may say, non-violence is not practical; life is a matter of getting even, of hitting back, of dog eat do& Maybe in some distant Ut(«)ia, you say, that idea will work, but not jn the hard, cold world in which we live. My only answer is that mankind has followed the so-called practical way for a long time, now, and it has led inexorably to deeper confusion and chaos.
Time is cluttered with the wreckage of individuals and communities that surrendered to hatred and violence. For the salvation of our nation and the salvation of mankind, we must follow another way. This does not mean that we abandon our militant efforts. With every ounce of our energy we miist continue to rid our nation of the incubus of racial injustice. But we need not in the process relinquish our privilege and obligation tolove*
In the final analysis the weakness of Black Power is its failure to see that the black man needs the white man and the white man needs the black man. However much we may try to romanticise the slogan, there is no separate black path to power and fulfillment that does not intersect white paths, and there is no separate white path to power and fulfillment, short of social disaster, that does not share-that power with black aspirations for freedom and humain dignity.
. The American racial revolution hais been arevolution to "get. in' rather than to overthrow^' We want a share in the American economy, the housing market, the educational system and social opportunities.
This goal itself indicates that a social change in America must be non-violent. If one is in search for a better job, : it does not help to burn down the factory. If one needs more adequate education, shooting the principal will not help. If housing is the goal, only ■ building and constructlonwill produce that etid. Todestroy anything, personor property, cannot bring us closer to the goal.that we seek. ; y .
This Is no time for romantic Illusions and empty philosophical debates.about . ffeedom. This Is a time for action. What is needed Is a strategy for chahge-lr^-tical progratnmjET that will, bring the Nerfo into the mainstream^ of American life as quickly ^ / possible. So far, this has 6nly been offered by theVnion-vIolent ! movement. To goixd ourselves from bitterness, we need the vision to see in this generation's ordeals the opportunity to. transfigure both ourselves and American v society.
