ISRAEL, NAZIS LINKED IN POLISH CARTOON
Warsaw - Acartoonliken-ing Israel to Nazi Germany appeared this week in the Polish Armed Forces newspaper "Soldier of Freedom".
It shows a helmeted Israeli sitting on the bank of the. River Jordan and eating with a fork and a knife bits of the East Bank. Next to him sits Hitler's skeleton, which says: "I had an appetite like that too."
the cartoon was captioned: "Israeli cartographers drafted a new map of the country which includes large portions of the UAR, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan."
POLISH DISMISSALS CONTINUE
From our Special Correspondent on East European Affairs
London, (JCNS).-
The spate of ahtl-Jewish prc^aganda in Poland has slowed down, but anti-Jewish actions are continuing. Jews still, are being dismissed from their posts, and none of those arrested earlier has been released.
The mood of the Jewish community is grim as preparations by the authorities continue for a show trial of the alleged instigators of the shident disturbances in Warsaw and elsewhere last March. Most of the accused are Jews.
According to reliable sources, there have been a number of suicides among Jews dismissed from their ]obs. Others, also without a means of livelihood now, who might want to leave Poland, cannot do so because it would mean leaving their children behind in custody. An estimated hundred young Jews, mostly university students, are detained at present.
They include the two sons of Hersh Smolar, formef president of the Cultural and Social Union of Polish Jews, dismissed both from this post and the editorship of the Warsaw Yiddish paper, "Folks Sztyme."
A long time Communist once high in Moscow's graces and a former Partisan leader, Smolar has fallen on hard times.
As for "Folks Sztyme," a commissar has been aH)oint-ed by the PollshGovernment to supervise it.
Since none of the veteran
trish Communists would ee to take over "Folks Sztyme's" editorship after Smolar's dismissal, two young individuais are in charge.
Professor Leszek Kolak-owskl, a well known philosopher and non-Jew, has been forced to leave Poland by the authorities. He has arrived in Montreal with his famUy. His wife is Jewish. Her family lives in Israel.
