Mr. and Mrs. Cohen went to the movies. Said Mr. Co^ hen to Mrs. Cohen when they were apparently settled:
"Can you see, dear?" :
Mrs. Cohen: "Yes."
Mr. Cohen: "Is there a draft on you?"
Mrs. Cohen: "No."
Mr. Cohen: "Is your seat comfortable?"
Mrs. Cohen: "Yes."
Mr. Cohen: "So let's change seats."
COMPLIMENT
Said little Danhy: • 'Grandpa, today you are seventy-eight years old. So, from my calculations I assume your heart beat 3,299,087,600 times from the minute you were born.'- '
"Correct, but there is a
tiny mistaike," replied Grandpa with a smile. Vlt has beaten 3i299,087,599 times onlyj because when I; met your grandmother my heart stopped for a moment"
THAT'S DIFFERENT Three Boy Scouts reported to their Scoutmaster that they had^done a good deed that day. "We helped a little old lady across the street, "they said.
The Scoutmaster, who also was a rabbi, beamed.
"That was a good deed indeed, but I do not understand why it took the three of you to give her a hand?"
The three became silent. Then, summoning up some courage, one stammered Out: "Because she did not want to go."

HUMAN RELATIONS
QUESTION:
I have a very pressing problem. TTiis pas| Saturday ni^t, my husband and I baby-sat for my dau^ter-in-law ahd son who brought their 2 1/2 year old son to my home. When they came to get the child to take him home (around midnight), my daughter-in-law thanked me. I told her that there was really no need to thank me as it was also "my baby".
Last night 1 received a call from my son telling me never to refer to the child as "my baby", as the child becomes confused. When they got home, the child was very cranky. He said it was all my fault and that I had upset the child by referring to him as "my baby".
I told my son that his actions were not very reasonable. Was what I said wrong ?
ANSWER:
' During a child's first years of life, the most important and basic lesson is for him to learn how to differentiate between fantasy and reality. Reality which can be fascinating and stimulating is also, at times, most frustrating. It is this aspect of reality that the child must adjust to and learn to handle.
Psychologically, ydur son' is ri^t in the request he made of you. When you call your grandson your baby, the little one figures that you are partially his mother. This also makes you partially his daddy's wife. If two can have one and the same person, then there is no reason why he, too, caimot have his mother at the saime time as his daddy.
In calling your grandson your baby, you convey the feeling that your son, too, is still your baby; and that you have not yet given him up, Although you are a good and considerate mother-in-law, you may stiU feel that you gave up a great deal in letting your son get married. Therefore, the least that is owed you in repayment for this gift, as weU as for
your kindness in baby-sitting, is for you to be acknowledged as a part-owner of the baby. Just being allovred to baby-sit is not enough. After all, the little one is asleep and you are not really spending any time with him. You are just sitting airound, perhaps slightly bored, and waiting for your son and dau^ter-in-law to come home ttom having a good time.
The child's cirankiness upon his return home could not have been created wholly, or even in great part, by anything you said. Infants can be moved easily from one place to another while they are asleep, without being too disturbed. However, children your grandson's age may already be restless or even fitful sleepers, and then are upset even more v^en they are moved from place to place and then required to relax and go to sleep again.
It is better for a child to sleep in his own bed while the grown-ups come to baby'sit in his home. If this is difficult, then the child should be allowed to spend the ni^t with his baby-sitting grandparents. His parents could then come and get him the following morning. Grandparents can make a vronderful contribution to the child's security and to his feeling of being loved by the adults who surround him. However, most of the time they are together should be spent in play or activities where they can really get to know each other.
To say that gratitude is not necessary is to belittle both the gift and the giver. Your relationship with the yoUng couple must be a good one if your son is able to express himself to you so openly and directly. When it comes to the treatment of their child, let these fine young parents be your guide. Then your relationship with them will continue to be good, and your relationship with your grandson will become even better.

Don't you find it annoying? the minute you becomi accustomed to one form of style, you're presented ivith another. At feast if there were some improvement! But ' dieyye worse and worse. Also, dp you notice the fuHcircfi, back to where we started?
*•«*••••*»«•-.
Talce shoes, l/jffiat you see now for fall is absolutely ikhy. The shape of those heels/ I wouldn't be caught dead wearing them-till I'm more, used to them. The only good thing about them is they're sensible. At least you don't hobble on stilts. Though how they hurt the eye I
It brings me back to when wedgies first came out. I swear, they looked like cripple-shoes.
Mama nearly had a fit the first time I wore a pair. Whenever she disapproved of something, her pet expression was, ■ ■
"I gave birth to healthy children and they make themselves cripples."
But what are you going to do when you want to be up-to-date? So you follow the sheep and what's ugly you say is gorgeous. Kaday (just so) those who dreamed up these oudandish fads get rich fast
What topped off the wedgies mre platform soles. Remember those? There was, though, something artistic about them. And no matter what color, you always had a bag to match.
One seamn I used red as an accessory to black. I had this huge red crocodile bag: But an all-red shoe would have been too loud. I finally found a beautiful pair of black patent leather with bright red platform lOJles.
And I only enjoyed them once. I got caught in a rain and they shrank.
So now we're back to the clumsy look again. I'm sorry, when I moved, I threw out all those old pairs of sheet They'd come in handy now.
And the hairdos! Meshooga (crazy),
I came across a photo recendy of a girl who had her hair shorn in one of the newest styles. One side was almost Soulder length and die other side was to her earlobe, parted in the middle.
Now who'd want to go around like that? But there vm an aytza (solution). It was suggested that if her husband waaft too keen on it, she could wear her usually-coiffed wig.
Nu, I have no wig. And t am not going to get one. I like my own three hairs.
The only thing in favor is die flat top. No more teasing
But then, s^in, a little teasing gives such a dignified effect. The other way you look like a smashed-in matza.
So whafll you have? Like Papa used to say, "Bock bagel, bock nishtfbake bagel, don't bake)."
My memory goes back to the first boyish bob. (Yes, children, in this century). We kids looked so dapper. We even whisded walking along (how bold can you get?), trying to imitate the boys
Our parents thought we were going to the dogs. Huh I We were tame, little lemons compared to now.
••*••*«•*«*•
Every time my brood looked at my wedding picture, they giggled. My wedding gown was a govm to end all gowns, they thpu^t. But my detailed description of how gorgeous it was didn't impress them. They were hyster-ical at the huge bow in back.
Nu, I had my nakumma (revenge). Just the other day we were at a wedding. And I nudged my girls, "See something familiar? "
They saw immediately. The bride's exclusive gown had the same bow tike mine, at the same place at the same
waisdine. And I won't tell you how many years ago that was
They laughed at the ringlets on top of my head. So this: summer I'm laughing back. Because they torture themselves at night widi rollers so they can have curls just like mine.
