()J the past. The synagogues, which once teemed with life, now only echo the footsteps of sightseers. They have been turned into museums, full of magnificent exhibits, but as dead as the hands that Iushioned them;
Some months ago. surrounded by other tourists. 1 .sal in my father's place in the Spanish:: Synagogue where he used to )ray. The ornamental ceiling ooked down on me as in bygone days, but no rabbi or chazan intoned prayers on the almemar. The ladies' gallery, which in my youth always blossomed with pretty hats, and where I so often sal with my mother and sisters —was also empty.
The MaisI Synagogue is resplendent with hs silver-collection of religious objects— producis of gold- and silversmith guild masters from Prague, Moravia. Vienna and Aug.sburg.
Perhaps future generations will get more joy out of these examples of superb workmanship—I myself cannot divorce them from the lives they remind me ot. Hitler concentrated contents ot looted synagogues in Prague to create a museum ot an e.\tinct race. In Czechoslovakia he very nearly succeeded.

New York (JCNS) - Jewish memtters of the American Communist Party and fellow travellers tt6re shaken by the attitude, of the Soviet Union towards; Israel during and since the Six-Day War and by its treatment of its Jewish minority, but events in Czechoslovakia have brought them to breaking poult.
It is difficult to find any Jew within or close to the party who agrees with the
whitewashing of the Soviet Union and its associated States over the invasion of Czechoslovakia by Gus Hall, the-.party secretary, and the JCNS correspondent here has been told that the great majority of the non-Jewish' members do not agree with him either.
