The world's most popular liqueur!
Heerinc
Cherry Heering first made in Copenhagen in 1818, is still being made in exactly the same way, in exactly the sam^ place by the Heering family.
Cherry Heering is made from plump black Danish cherries. Its rich, dark cerise bouquet and flavor make it unique.
Cherry Heering is a liqueur whose cheerful cherry flavor ends a meal on just the right note. On ice or in tall drinks it is delectable. Poured over ice cream it makes a sensational dessert.
Cherry Heering is a Danish delight as popular as Danish pastry, as elegant as Danish furniture. Cherry Heering is Denmark's contribution to world friendship and international cheerfulness.
Our only child, niarried 12 years, lives 1/2 mUe frdin us. She has tWo children, 8 aiid 5 1/2,. and has been teaching continuously; Her earninigs riiake possible the type of house they liow eiijoy, 2 cars; and a boat:
My daughter's husband is an uneducated, uncouth person who keeps after the boy all the time.
The other evening the boy vras banished to his rQom simply because he was jumping up and dovm. I said to my daughter, "Oh God what does he want from that child? " She turned on me and told me to "shut up." She is well-liked by all in the community and considered quite a lady.
She never gets angry or upset with her husband.
We see them once a month. She, of course, is too busy to stop in at our house. I, too, go to business and am busy. She doesn't phone for two%eeks at a time to find out if v/e are still a-round. My husband is not one to say anything either.
Mostly I am worried about my grandson. He is'exactly like his father. There isn't one person in our town who has a good word for his father. People tell me what they think of him and express amazement that my daughter married him.
ANSWER:
Parents of an only child find it harder to accept her as an adult, and to treat her with the respect due her status. Because of the mutual dependence of the growing years, the parent acting as an older sibling and the child making up for the other children the parent could not have, the process of breaking away from each other often takes longer.
The man such a girl chooses is often not approved of by the parent. The mother wants to be the match-maker and is angry with the daughter for not letting her choose the man. Despite this, she wants total acceptance from her son-in-law. She gave him her one and only child and he should show his gratitude by including her in his life. When this doesn't happen, the mother-in-law retaliates by finding fault with him as a
pairent.as a husband, and in every other
■ -way.'
Whatever you may think of yoUr son-in-law, your daughter chose hini, and loves him. They are evidently building a good life together, according to their lig|hts, and she is glad to have hirn act as the head of the household; She may have missed this in her growing years when her father did nbt take a stand and speak up for himself.
It is important for a growing boy to see his father as a strong authority-figure, and he feels protected even through he may rebel against it occasion-aUy.
You can be sure that people who gossip and talk against your son-in-law to you, will in turn talk against you. By this time your daughter and her husband have been apprised in one way or another of this talk against him. Listening is a form of participating. Perhaps because these people fear that you may tell on them, they get there first cind accuse you of disloyal behavior. Your daughter and her husband are comporting themsdves vrith dignity and restraint in these circumstances. But the more you talk and listen to gossip directed against them, the wider will the gap between you become.
Good parents act as one in the discipline of their children. Grandparents, too should present a united front with the parents when the little ones begin to act up. Othenwise they sense such divi-siveness and begin to misbehave wrtien-ever the grandparents are around. That may be one of the reasons vHiy your daughter does not want to have you around too often.
Your daughter not only works, but has two small children to care for and rear. She may be wondering why you do not find the time to call her, to see "if she and her family are still around."
Your daughter's first loyalty is to her husband and children. While her language to you may not always have been polite, it was her way of suggesting that perhaps you are talking too much, that she knows about it, and that you ought to stop.
When you appreciate your son-in-law for the fulfillment he has broui^t your daughter, you will also see him as the good and strong father he is, and be more accepting of his handling of the younger male in the family, your grandson.

A t last everything's peachy again. School has begun, it's murder around the house, everybody is falling over each other, you can't hear yourself think over the din. We're all back in business for another year.
Are you having trouble laying down the law? Like, what time the kids should go to bed.
I say, for a youngster, in the middle of the week not later than nine-thirty. And, of course, this is followed by a big, protesting, howl,
'Wat d'ya think, I'm a baby? None of the kids in my class..."
"Again, the kids in your class? " I wail.
How well I know, though, that bedtime will extend to goodness knows when. Excuse: "Well, there's so much homework."
So what can you do? Nothing.
And while you're at it, don't forget to call all your friends and wi^ them a happy winter. There's no telling v\^en you'll talk to them again. Because every phone in the house will be tied up. You Just won't have a chance. Excuse: homework. .
Cook rapidly until thick, about 20 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent sticking. Add the nuts during the last few minutes of cooking. Pour the boiling hot conserve into half-pint hot. sterilized canning jars. Adjust the caps. Cool and store in a cool, dark, dry place.
Yield: About 6 half-pints.
What's more, suppose you do get your small fry to think of going to bed on the time you set. Think they're ready to hit the hay? Anekhtigetug (yesterday's day).
First, it's one last call to the favorite pal, though the reason, valid ^s is sounds, remains a mystery. Then, if a girl, it's setting hair; if a boy, it's making sure the soap reaches behind the ears.
Give and take a dozen odds and ends, the lights finally go out about an hoar after curfew.
How about the crowded ayem? You set the alarm for six because at seven you take a deep breath and begin the waking-up process.
After about the fifth call, one responds by turning over, rear end up; another opens one eye and pleads, "Just one more minute."
Then you really start screaming. At night you can't get them to bed and in the morning you can't wake them up. Of course, this has been going on since time immemorial.
All at once-nu, watch out for the scramble to the washroom! It's a good thing your better half doesn't need it then; he'd have to shave at the next door neighbor's.
Sometimes even two bathrooms don't suffice, in fact, I once lived in an apartment that had three. But ess butt nisht gehulfen (it didn't help); the baby was always on the potty.
Despite baths the night before, you need boots to wade through. But at least there's evidence of their having washed You know you won't feel embarrassed if the school doctor shows up that day.
/ have tongue in cheek when a mother tells me, "Oh, I can sleep. Mine gets up without waking me, takes breakfast, even prepares lunch. I don't even have to worry."
My first reaction is envy. Why can't my brats do the same? They're old enough.
Then another mama chimes in, "Mine always makes the bed. I did a good job training."
That really gets me. Because I could train till I'm blue in the face, and I still get lumpy beds. So instead of yelling, I do them myself.
Maybe it is nice to have the kids fend for themselves They learn to be independent, and all the rest of ttie jazz.
But I think I prefer it my way. You know the saying, "Oz a vurrem esstzikh in khrain, dehkt ess ^siz zees (if a worm eats himself in horseradish, he thinks it's sweet).
So, Okay, I'm in horseradish. It's bedlam, we outyell each other all the time. But we're all together and that parting reminder, "Watch how you cross,"and the comeback, "Aw, Ma, I'm no baby," gives you such a good feeling; they feel you're always there.
You bet, it's nice and normal.
