EL AL
Approximately fifteen thousand Canadians visited Israel last year. Undoubtedly the two-way traffic between Canada and the Holy Land is one^f the mpst^i to our
travel industry. Millions of dollars are spent by travelers to the Middle East yet to this day both the Israeli airlines and the Canadian airlines seem not to have arrived at some arrangement by which planes can fly directly from Toronto to Lydda and back.
A few years ago, we understand, the problem Was raised with Canadian authorities. But the issue was postponed because of political expediency. More than a year ago the
question was raised in the Knesset, israel'$ parliament^ and thb answer given at that time also was a very diplomatic one.
It is beyorid all doubt that now^ the Israeli Governrhent and El Al Airlines woujd welcome an agree-
nadian Pacific Airlines for such a two-way traffic.
If the Canadian Government does not continue these negotiations, it means it is succumbing to pressure from those forces interested in discriminating against Israel. Certainly there is no reason why Canadian, travelers should not be able to fly directly from here to Jerusalem,
LIFELINE
by Rabbi wl Gunther Plaut
Iris commonplace to say that El Al is Israel's life-fine. That is true of course, aitd just because it is almost a truisin, it doesnot thereby cease to be true.
F^r Israel link to the vrorldvdik
can call its own. No passenger boats throng the o-;cean, no roads or railways through die surrounding Arab lands. ^ .".■■.■:;/,:/■;■>
Comes trouble, and even the airlines of the world cease operating into Lod, as they did in 1967. Only El Al was fl^g then; only pAl could bring men and equipment. Only El Al's eig^t planes!
Yet El Al is little without the people Who fly it.
Dr.Plaut
El Al is Israel's lifeline alright, but so are the people who fly it. So, be part of the lifeline. Next time you go, rem^ber El Al, Israel's national airline~and yours.
THE LAND OF PEACE
The dotes of Slukniona. a symbol of peace
El Al Israel Airlines has announced the purchase of a large building at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport for use as a.second passenger terminal.
With the increase of passenger traffic to Israel and the growth of El Al's fleet, accommodation of passengers in existing facilities have become inadequate. Hence there will be two passenger buildings in operation for the comfort of those flying El Al.
The new building is presently under modification and conversion. The first section will be ready this coming May coinciding with the commencement of the large flight program which will include tea.non-st9p flightis from a * * 'serffice of twenty-six
flights from New York to Tel Aviv.
The service building is being designed by Mrs. Dora Gad whose artistic accomplishments include the Four Seasons Hotel, the S.S. Sha-
lom, and Israel's Knesset building. The underlying color theme will be orange, which will express the warmth of reception and the sunshine that brightens Israel's sky.
