The attack against the El Al jetliner in Zurich last week was not directed only against its crew and passengers; it was meant to hit all of us, the fifteen million Jews—those in the historic homeland of our people as well as those dwelling in the Diaspora. For we all were on that planet~aU of us---men, women and children.
El Al is not an ordinary airline or an airline only. El Al symbolizes the sovereignty and independence, of the State of Israel which has been under constant assault since its inception by those who cannot make peace, not with Israel the state but with ^^A^^
land living by sufferance as a minority everywhere and not permitted to forge its own destiny.
If El Al fHes, the flag of Isi'ael reborn, the golde to land the message of the miraculous renaissance of the Hebrew nation on its own soil.
If the El Al wings are clipped, if the State of Israel is cut off completely from the world by air or by sea, thisStateoflsraelactuaUy ceases to exist; it then would become a ghetto ready for annihilation.
