African Lion Safari
Majestic giraffes find ^place to stands gww^ at wild-life park
ROCKTON, Ont.-
Three majestic animals have found "a place to stand and a place to grow" at African Lion Safari, a large 500 acre drive-through wild-life park. Many differeiit and exotic species of animals roam free, allowing visitors to see them from the comfort and safety of their own car.
Tom, a male giraffe, is two-years-old, almost 12 feet in height and weighs about 750 lbs. Eventually he will weigh at l.east three times that amount. Tina:, and Teresa, two girls, are 10 feet tall 'and weigh about 500 lbs.
Within a short time they will learn to identify their new, wardens, but initially thes^ persons will have to be careful not to approach the animals too closely as a blow from a: hoof or indeed from the Tieck would cause serious injury.
At African Lion Safari they share the, East-Africa game reserve with elephant, zebra, ostrich, and rare white
rhinosceros. They will also learn that they have nothing to fear from the presence of over 40 wild lions in a nearby reserve.
Believe it or not, all three, giraffe were transported "containerized" to their new home, as the safest and most efficient way to handle their shipping..
The giraffe isj)erhaps the strangest of all the larger
herbivores. Fully grown it is.the tallest animal In the' world, reaching a height of up to i 8 feet of which half consists of neck. In spite of its enormous length of neck^ the giraffe has exacty the same number of vertabrae
as a mouse. The shoulders and legs are immensely pow-. erful and the giraffe is ca-pabjle of a fair turn of speed, moving extremeiy gracefully for such a large animal,
Giraffes feed chiefly from the lower-branches of trees
and to reach food on the ground or to drink water, the front legs have to be splayed outwards so that the animal appears to be ' 'doing the splits."
It was once believed that giraffes were unable to utter
any sound, but. that is quite untrue. Although they are not nbrmally vocal, they can and do emit low-pitched sounds.
Unfortunately, iii Africa giraffe have beien eliminated by^ poachers from large tracts of their natural range.

The 15,000 ton Stella Solaris sets many new standards of elegance even for Sun Line. For instance, the return of the over-sized stateroom. Just when the biggest cruise ships are offering smaller cabins, the Solaris reverses the trend with larger staterooms and public lounges, Besides closed-circuit TV. the Solaris also has 110 staterooms with their own sitting rooms.
The Solaris also offers twin swimming pools, a grill room, discotheque, library, card room, movie theatre, children's playroom, sauna, gymnasium, beauty parlor, barber shop and a duty-free shbpping gallery all done with Sun Line's superb sense of design and good taste.
Sun Line has also devised a splendid itinerary. From Port Everglades you'll visit such varied and vibrant Worlds as French Martinique, Dutch St. Maarten, British-flavoured Barbados and something-different Port Antonio in Jamaica.
Imaginative land tours and excursions will also be offered through the purser's office. The entire cruise will be an unforgettable vacation experience. Sun Line's expertise guarantees it. Make your reservations now to secure the aiccommodatibh of your choice.
