Women Bond Sponsors raised to $lj500 purchase
TORONTO —
Consistent with Israel's rising economic needs. The Sponsor Division of the women's Israel Bond world-wide campaign took the decisive action of raising the qualifying level of purchase by a full 50%, from a $1,000 bond purchase "to $1,500 in 1975.
"Toronto women proved on May 20th, at the opening Sponsor Luncheon of the 1975 Israel Bond campaign, that they fully appreciate Israel's critical situation and stand ready to lend their support even if greater financial sacrifices are called for on their

part," declared Mrs. Donald Liptnan. women's division chairman.
More than $193,750 in Israel Bond purchases was announced by those atr tending the luncheon held at the home of Mrs. George Goldlist. Guest speaker was Mrs. Tamar Eshel. former ambassador of Israel's mission at the UN. who presented a very sobering picture of the problems and struggles of the women of Israel to maintain the quality of family life in the face of Crushing taxation, high inflation, compulsory reserve army duty for men and women, terrorist bombs^ cutbacks in housing and free education, and staggering defense costs.
"A weak, unprepared Israel is the greatest temptation for the Arabs to attempt another roiihd
of war." Mrs. Eshel asserted."As never before, we need the help, understanding and support of free Jewish communities, and your loan dollars to ensure the quality of pur homeland and our future."
Mrs. Eshel participated in the ceremony o f , ing the Sponsor Pins, designed by prominent Israeli artist Bezalel Schatz, to the newly-enrolled sponsors in various categories of purchase.
The next day, Mrs. Eshel spoke at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Goldberger. She called upon the supporters of the Israel Bond effort to "prove again you have faith in Israel and the Jiewish People, and to do it now. because this is one of the toughest, most dangerous years we have ever known."

TORONTO —
"It's About Time" is the alternate slogan to International Women's Year's controversial "Why Not?". It is offered by Renate Krakauer. director of the Centre For Women, Humber College.
The positive phrase expresses Renate's own no-nonsense. straightforward approach to defining a woman's role. A graduate pharmacist, she realized that she had originally chosen her profession with an eye on part-time employment to juggled with years of homemaking.
Today, as director of a dynamic centre for women's programs and career counselling. Renate hopes that women will feel more committed to choosing a career that is of primary importance of them.
The Centre at Humber College, where Renate has been director since December, is a warm, with-it. women's place. Posters that evoke an immediate ' "right-on!" response color the efficient surroundings where a staff of assertive and understanding women reach out to help their sisters.
"Women are coming to the Centre for more than credit courses." states Ms. Krakauer. "They're coming for help in deter-mininjg their life's direction." There is a counsellor for individual help on staff at the Centre as well as a full-time community worker, who is more involved with groups and

liaison to' community projects siich as a hostel for women in a shuation of transition.
'"Women want to talk to women who have an understanding of their special needs." points out Ms. Krakauer. Her own experience in investigating re-training includes career counselling from a man "who hadn't a clue" what she was talking about in seeking change.
"We have to demystify the whole area of career orientation — it is not always necessary to do a lot of psychological and aptitude testing. A good counsellor should be a good guide."
Renate Krakauer. speaks with the insights gained from personal, knowledge as well as from" extensive education. Her first attempts to "go back to school'' were part-time, one-c6urse-a-year efforts. After some reassessment, she realized that to really

get into a new field, she had to "go for broke" with full-time immersion in work and study.
Renate got her Master's degree from York University's faculty of, environmental studies, which she describes as "innovative,' interdisciplinary and intellectually with it." From an early interest in social change and education, she developed courses specifically directed to women's interests.
While working for academic credit. Renate developed Humber College's first women's studies course for the Centre that later hired her to head its program. She has also developed and taught courses at Sheridan College and York University, and has been the co-ordi-nator of and an instructor in the Women in Business and Government project at York's Centre for Continuing Education.
"My bag is developing new stuff," Renate confides. '"We must be answering some kind of need; as women come to the Centre from all over the city." Community colleges are geared to serving the real needs of the community, she explains. Courses deal with the whole woman, rather than concentrate on a dry approach aimed only at getting marks.
Renate Kirakauer heads these ambitious projects while sharing the responsibilities of home and three children ages 9,7 and 4i with her husband 'Ubby*, a phaflnacist working in pharmacy aid-ministration.
"Children are very hardy," their articulate 34-year-old mother reports. "They benefit from having much more independence, learn to relate well to. others and tor express their needs. Parents still have the strongest effect on children, even with babysitters in the home."
There is also a lot of benefit to the father when mothers begin to consider
their rights as individuals in the family, according to Ms. Krakauer. A close 'relationship develops between fathers and children as both parents see the -need to divide their spare time fix)m work.
Both Renate and Ubby are involved with their '^fa m i 1 y in a western suburban Jewish community that includes Etobi-cdke. Malton and Brama-lea. An average of 25 families actively run an after-school H e b r e w school and Sunday school at Elmlea Junior School in Rexdale. The community also sponsors adult education programs and holiday parties during Purim and Chanukah.
