New Baycrest: ■ Tei race
come
TORONTO —
"It's a dream come true — there's no other way to describe it."
Dora Nish. 78. talks about her "hew life" at
Baycrest Terrace, the recently opened apartment tower and activities centre extension to Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care.
Interviewed during her
roiinds as a Canada census-taker in the .11-stdrey minimal care residence, Mrs. Nish says, "1 used to dream about having my Own home again but I really didn't
think it would come true."
And snial! wonder. Before nioying into her Terrace apartment in April, she lived six years m The Jewish Home for the Aged and spent some 16 months_jn Baycrest Hospital.-I^day. she gets around spryly with the help of a cane and is involved in so many activities her f a m i 1 y cheerfully complains about needing an appoint-nient to see-her.
"The people at the Home and at Baycrest Hospital got me back on my feet and made it possible for me to live in the Terrace. They were wonderful. 1 liked it at the Home. too. but there's
nothing like having yoiir own place."
Neighbor Freda Winer, 82, agrees. Between answering questions for her census-taking neighbor— "I was born in Poland. March 15, 1894" — she says she never even dreamed there could be a place like Baycrest Terrace. .
"It's beautiful. I love it. It's like walking tall again after being hunched up." She flashes a sriiile any 18-year-old would envy. ' Both women agree that while they treasure the privacy of their own apartments, they enjoy the security of never being completely alone.
Both participate in programs held in the new

comes into its own
TORONTO —
The United Jewish Appeal women's division "truly came into its own ' in the. 1976 tampaign. in the words of chairriian Beverley Gordon as she addressed the closing board meeting recently.
Mrs. Gordon announced that more than S 1.3^0.000 his bee n raised to date in the I9~6 campaign, which represents an increase of P*^!. over the previous year. . Much of the success of the women's Gampaign. she said, "can be attributed to the additioii of ,1.500 new names." ail of which were can\assed through telethons, ""with fantastic success."
Rabbi' W; Gunther ■Piaur officially installed incoming 19 chairman. Eleanor Rose, along with the first and second vice: chairmen. Marvelle Kof-flcr and Penny Off man.
In reviewing the activi-ties, of the past year. Beverley Gordon told the large turnout of board members and guests at Holy Blossom Temple; that education played a major role in canvasser training. The , fociis this year was on world reaction in the aftermath of the infamous UN anti-Zionist resolution.
Mrs. Rose outlined' plans for the ne.\t cam-
paign, reiterating the need, to expand thi? educational prograrhs for more effective canvassing.
She reminisced about her personal re-: actions to Israel on her first visit to the Jewish state ill 1967 and informed the meeting she would like to set up a women's study mission in the fall, if possible.
.Also in the offing is the formation of a women's business and professional division to attract those women "who have the earning capacity and business stature to , match their male counterparts. "We must reach these. women and bring them into the UJA family if we are to continue to thrive as a viable organization," Mrs. Rose stated.
In her capacity as women's division chairman, shewill work closely with the campaign plan- .. ning executive and with I9"7 chairman. Joe Ber- . man. "We in the women's division are an integral part of the total campaign. We share a coriimon goal with ..all. other divisions and our performance in the past few vears has : added
structure and credibility to the input we can and will .give to the overall campaign."
