V'hayeeta ach samarach... You shall be altogether joyful...
\ few bits of schach to stuff into the gaps...
.*■*■'■.*. It's better to hang apples in a succah than to s hang yourself — with pride....
Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev always packed his succah with the simplest, most unlearned Jews. When the hoy poloy twitched their beards in disdain.' he commented — "Someday, the < Ribono shel Olani will make a great succah out of the skin of Leviathan, and invite all the righteous : to a feast. When Til try to get in, the guardian :: angelwill yell. "Say, Berditchev, who said you were good enough to qualify...' And I'll be able ;: to answer. "Listen. Lwelcomed everyone into my succah also'..."
Who needs plastic apples? We have to decorate our succah with next door neighbors who we invite to share our succah with us...

You can't play baseball with an esrog — you : can't squeeze the juice out of a Jew. What do I : mean? Imagine...the Almigl^ty commanded.us to grasp an esrog on Succpth. But it's straiige — what are wc making, a lemon meringue pie? Why : couldn't wc use a grapefruit. <or a bunch of bananas? ...
Ah. but it teaches... Every fruit has its special season when it blossoms — some when it's cool, some when it's hot. But an esrog, blossoms all year round, tlrst one crop, then another. The same with we Jews... Every nation has its time when.it grows great, and then it withers away. But however much they try to chop us down, we Jews always blossom, and pop up again... The Yiddische esrog.never turns sour... {Bais Yaakov)
* * *
But a Jew has to be a good roller-skater — he : never knows where he's going next...
Consider...when you pile schach on top of a : succah. you have to make sure that none of the ■ rccds or; bamboo are still attac^hed to the ground :
— it all has to be cut and portable.. Why the building code?
But G—d said -iri" Listen, jt'^ a reminder when vou go into c.xiie. Doh't.think you're attached to .,any country exccp.t.your own — Eretz Yisrael. When you're living in galus. however safe it may seem, you don't know when they're going to tell vou to pack up and move out..." (Knesset Yis- ■ rael)

Savchel keeps you safe... A.Jew was walking ; along a Ru.ssian river and he fell in. He cried out : tor help, but the Russian guards who were walk- ■ uig alongside sa^»■ it was a Jew. . "Let the Zhid drown—"
Finally, the Jevy saw he was in desperate straits, he yelled out— "Down with Brezhnev! ; Down with Brezhnev!" . '
The guards, heard that, jumped in, and : dragged'him to the nearest police station... *■ * *
Every Jew is the first man... When Adam ate from the Aitz Ha'daas — the Tree of Knowledge :
— it wasn't a Sunkist orange — but an esrog. An : esrog contains secrets so sacred, it is forbidden to : write about them. The Almighty decreed —
"Adam must die, but his neshama must be recycled through every Jew 1..."
Every Jew is a spark of Adam. Each jittle mitz-vah. brings us closer to Gan Eden. But when a Jew clasps a lulav and esrog, his neishama ascends to the highest sphere, in a mystic, indescribable union;.. Jf we could only see! If we could onlv understand!

A most attractive set of five stamps was issued on Aug. 24, 1971 in honor of Succoth. '.'Three times in the year you shall keep a feast to me," from Exodus 24:14 refers to the f e a St s of Shavuoth Pesach.and Succ6th, all of whom svere commemorated with stamps during the 1971-72 period.
This verse appears in Hebrew and English on the official first day (.-overs for all three sets. For this Succoth set, two first day covers were issiieid, one with the three lower value stamps and the other with the two higher values. The Shavuoth and Pesach . stamps have already been discussed in a previous article.
This Succoth set. simi-■ lar to the one for Shavuoth. is. beautifully multicolored, predominantly with yellow and gold. Designed by A. Kalderon of Ramat Gan, these stamps were printed by the Government Printers using the photogravure process in sheets of 15 With five; tabs and comb-perforate 14 X13.
Each stamp includes a significant verse from the Bible in illuminated gold lettering and each verse is translated into English on the.tab. The IL0.15 statnp quotes from Deuteronomy 16:14. "You shall rejoice m your feast"; the four other stamps take pas-. sages from The Book of Leviticus: the IL. 0.18 value cites Verse 42 from Chapter 23. "You shall dwell in booths for seven days"; the IL 0.20 stamp. Verse 43 from the. same chapter, "That 1 made the
people of Israel dN^cU in booths"; the next value for IL. 0.40 also from the same chapter. Verse 39, "...when you have gath-. ered in the produce of the land"; and the highest denomination of .this set for IL. 0.65 quotes Chapter 26, Verse 4, "that 1 will give you your rains in their season." .
These staimps arc truly elegant and make a fine addition to any collection. They should be easy to obtain and cost perhaps $2 mint with tabs and probably less than a dollar mint without tabs. These prices obviously exhibit the importance of tabs to colkctors of. 1 s r a el i stamps.
