CJN staff reporter Beverley Stem did some first hand research on the beantifyhig aspects of Israeli cosmetics when she visited cosmetologist Dora Taler.

TORONTO -
If 70 to 90% of skin care products are water, then the Composition of that water has to be judged as important.
The Lon line from Israel, for example, is produced from the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea in Israel which are world-renowned for their health'giving properties.
Twenty years ago,,; a business-minded Prime Minister, David Ben Gurion, gave the Lon manufacturer exclusive rights to use the Zohar mineral waters from the Dead Sea if that was where the firm would' build a laboratory.
The Lon manufacturer made the deal. The plant was built at Yeruham, halfway between Beer-sheba and the Dead Sea, arid the offices in Ramat Can. Tel Aviv.
Ten years ago, Lon began to penetrate the LJ.S, market, and five years ago, it came to Canada. /
Today, the Lon line is still relatively unknown to consumers because it is not merchandised in'retail . stores "but/ sold only through the outlets of professional beauty salon and estheticians.
The Bio-Esthetics Institute on Spadlna Rd. near Lonsmount is one of Lon's customers in Toronto. It is run by Romanian-born Dora Taler, who has: been trained in some of the best-known-schools, for . cosmetologists in Italy and France. .
A graduate of child psychology from the. University of Al. I. Cuza in lasi, Romania, Taler switched to esthetics when she left Romania. She took
courses at the Alta Classa in Rome, Sergio's in Lido, the School of Generial Esthetics in Rome as well as courses at French institutes-.
When she came to Toronto in 1948, she worked for tvv'o years with the Elizabeth Arden Salon in Yorkdale-Plaza.
" N o r t h A ni e r i c a Ik women hi the .last few years are just beginning to learn what European women have known all along — that skin care is every bit as Important and even more important than cosmetics, says Mrs. Taler.
"The condition of the skin, its cleanliness, texture, suppleness and firmness, will determine how the makeup will look. It doesn't matter.how much makeup is applied," she says, "if the skin itself is not in good shape."
Taler uses the complete Lon line for her whole treatment'of the skin — from cleansing stage right through to toning, masking and moisturizing.
When she decided, to open her esthetics salon in Toronto, she investigated what she considered were the finest skin care lines from all around the world —- and names such as Biotherm and Lancombe from " France""and" Shis-heido from Japan — and. eventually opted for Lon.
Her husband, Lanrlan, a biochemist for the largest health care line servicing nursing-homes in Canada,' checked out the Lon ingredients and approved of the minerals and plant extracts as well as the purity of the chemicals ^sed. .
"A .certain degree of chemicals is required in all skin care products to preserve the ingredients,"
Past presidents plan meeting
TORONTO —
. When Lorraine Levine recently completed her term as president of the -Women's League of Conservative Sisterhoods, she found herself with time on h6rhands. _^
She^begarr to think of oth'er women, who like herself, had the leadership and communal expertise* but nowhere to channel all thatTenergy. It was while she was in- , volved as co-chairman in a leadership training program sponsored by the . Federation of Jewish Women's Organizations, that an idea to remedy the situation evolved.
Along with Gerda Frie-berg, a past FJWO pre-^., sident, and Molly Fried,-", man,of B'nai B^rith Women's Council Toronto; and FJWO leadership co-chairman, the concept ofa: seminar for past presidents of organizations and sisterhoods was formulated-.
The seminar, under FJWO auspices, wID be held on Monday. March 9, at the home of Lorraine. Levine, beginning at 9.30 a.m.
"Invitations have gone out to past presidents of all FJWO affiliates, going back five years," said Mrs. Friedberg, seminar chariman. "Dr. Rupert Shriar, associate director of Toronto Jewish Congress, _will address the meeting —•which.we believe is unique for Toronto.
It's an unnecessary waste when all this wo-manpowcr^is lost to the (^munity^'-ihe-went^n. f' If we can. steer th^se ■energies to committees or board-level functions, the community as .a whole benefits; These (women have so much toqffer."
Anyone wishing further hiformatlon on the seminar may contact Mln Har-rl8at977-3811,local277.
says Taler, but she stressed the Lon line of preparations were "pH balanced" — the most natural way to maintain a healthy complexion.
"I also liked the way the products penetrated the skin withdut leaving any oily residue and the fact that they were virtually fragrance-fr^ee. They also outpriced any of the competition in the top lines," she isays.
When this reporter arrived on the scene to interview Taler, she had just finished a cleansing, massage and makeup on an attractive, olive-skinned young woman who needed a beauty treatment like Raquel Welch needs tips on body-building.
One quick look at my dull pallor glowing a warm gray-green color under the fluorescent lights, and taler offered her services. AH in the interests of reporting, of course, i quickly acquiesced. . .
For approximately an hour and a half, I Inxuriat-ed.under the spell of Mrs. Taler's expert an.d supple fingers; Using only' Lon products, she dieep-cleahsed, freshened with a nbn-alcqhplic skin toner, stemmed with ' a gentle vaporizer, patted, rolled and lifted facial tissues and then applied a peeling mask which she: left on for approximately 20 minutes. :
. For finishing touches, Taler applied a light day makeup prepared by the Evermond Cosmetic Line from Italy, which is imported by the Lon distributor in Toronto.
It was a "skintillating" experience . . . no question about it. My skin looked, firmer, especially around the sensitive eye and neck regions. Facial color was clearer and brighter, and the effects lasted for the rest of the week at least — with or without makeup.
Men as well as women could beneflt from, such a program. People of all ages, as a matter of fact.
What the heck, you have nothing to lose but your wrinkles; Try it, youMl like it.

For Isriael and world JewryThis may be one of the most crucial years we have ever had in our history. Dr. Jonathan Liv-ney told a large gathering of women at Beth Jacob Synagogue recently.
Anti-semitism is becoming a stronger force today than it has been since the inception of the State of Israel, he declared, and, "if you look back with hindsight to the declaration in the United Nations that Zionism equals racism, that is a mild statement compared with what you hear today.
"Today, Zionism has been declared by three-quarters of the nations of the world as a crime against humanity."
Livney, who graduated with a law degree from the Hebrew University at the : age of 21, and is a former

WASHINGTON-
An advisor to President Reagan on foreign policy matters assured the B'nai B'rith International board of governors recently that the President is inherently sympathetic to Israel and realizes the Camp David process is the only viable path to peace in the Middle East.
Dr. Amos Perlinutter, counsellor to the National Security Council and pro-
all contact" with the PLO.
Thg, board called for support for Israel "in its search for peace with all of. its neighbors" and stated that the United States "must not" reward the PLO "and the other Arab rejectionist forces."
The United States, the board added, "must rally" its Western allies
and others "genuinely interested in peace" to reject the call of the recent Islamic conference for a holy war against Israel.
The B'nai B'rith leaders also accused the United Nations of maintaining a double standard and selective morality in the areas of peacekeeping and human rights.

Even the idea of the Holocaust, said Livney, "is being used as s;ome-thing that is hot even a Jewish experience." And he went on to qiiote Arafat, "whom your press sometimes calls the moderate leader of the PLO," as speaking of "the six million Arab victims of the Zionist Holocaust."
He further quoted from a recent statement by German chancellor Helmut Schmidt that "many people forget that the other victims of the Holocaust were the Arab's, because the Holocaust created the State of Israel and the State of Israel created
the Palestinian problem ^ . . and therefore we Germans Organization are at fault because there is a problem today with the Palestinians.','
at their annual winter meeting that Reagan is "dedicated'' to Israel; however, he added, Egypt will be the United States, focal point in any defence of the Middle East and Saudi Arabia will "continue as an ally pair excellence.''
Perlmutter, the author of nine books on the Middle East and politics, said the administration ' doesn't particularly like the idea being promoted by Americans European allies for a comprehensive peace settiement iii the Middle East.
Describing the recent meeting of the European Econorriic Community in Venice as "the Munich of 1981," Prof, Perlmutter said that both the British and French are working particularly hard in an attempt to "deterrorize" the Palestine Liberation and "give the Arabs what they want" in return for oil.
