BB project supplies coffee, goodies
Lodge brings cheer to Chri^

For many non-Jewish families, Christmas Eve is celebrated at home in peace and harmony -among relatives and close family friends.
But many citizens of Metro Toronto and York Region do not have this luxury. They are the police officers, firefighters and hospital support staff who must work Christmas Eve. Without their support, this region would literally come to a grinding and dangerous halt.
So, members of Unity Lodge of B'nai B'rith, Toronto region, have found a way to make this sta:iwart core of workers enjoy a bit of seasonal cheer as well.
Through Operation Coffee mate, lodge members provide tummy warming hot coffee, donuts, pastries and cookies — all free of charge to those still on the job from 7 p.m. until well past midnight on Christmas Eve.
Dave Burstyii, lodge president, feels it's a wonderful vehicle to bring joy into Christmas. "We believe, as a Jewish organization, that we have a responsibility to serve the larger community. Operation Cof-feemate is our way of saying thanks.'*
This project, which has been the "baby" of Unity Lodge for six years, involves a core group of 20 to 25 committed volunteers. Every detail must be ironed out months before, says Burstyn, which includes obtaining copious amounts of coffee, sugar, pastries, cups,
